A large sample of the veneration of the buried Lord is the famous “Romería”, established in 1921 (coinciding with the extension of the church, indicated in 1923), with the participation of Romeristas who came from Mexico and Central America.
The pilgrimage consisted of traveling on foot and at night from the Capital City to La Antigua Guatemala ending in the atrium of San Felipe Sanctuary, whose doors remained open from dusk on the first Friday of Lent until dawn on Saturday.
